I am Gareth Wheeler and I am new to the RS owners club.  I’ve only been a member for 2 months.  My car is a 1992 Mk 5 Escort RS2000.

I bought the car because it is one of the Fords I have always wanted, because they look different from the rest of the cars on the road and they are very under estimated, also fun to drive.    I bought K904 NOW back in July as a replacement for the car I used to have, a MK6 Escort 1.6 SI I had had for 2 years it was a nice car and I had done quite a lot of work to it but it was too slow!!

I had seen K904NOW last year.  When I first saw the car I thought, ‘what a nice car’, then I looked closer and I said to myself ‘Bloody hell, it’s an RS2000!!’ The car was on sale for £2,995, and due to my financial circumstances, I couldn’t afford it.  Six months later I was looking on the internet and I saw the car again, so I went to the location where they said the car was.  I walked up the forecourt, saw one of the salesmen and asked to look at the car.  When I looked around the car I couldn’t believe the condition of the car, it was immaculate!  I asked why the car had been there so long and he said ‘people just think it’s an old K reg escort and no one was interested in it

I part exchanged my SI for £700 and I was a proud owner of a RS2000 for £2,300.  The owner of the car sales originally bought it for himself but let it go because he was after an RS2000 of the MK 2 Escort variety.  The car has had 1 owner from new and has full Ford Dealer History from 1992 to 2005! The original owner bought a fleet of RS2000’s from Hendy Ford for his printing company in Watford, but he liked this one so much he kept if for 12 ½ years!

So far the car is relatively standard. The RS five spoke alloys have been colour coded and diamond cut, it has clear side repeaters because I don’t like orange ones!  I have put a new sound system in the car consisting of Sony Xplod head unit, Pioneer door speakers, Infinity 6 x 9’s, JBL sub and toxic  500w amp.  I have just put a set of toyo proxes performance tyres on which grip like chewing gum to a blanket and also make the wheels look better as well.  I have also just fitted a Mongoose cat back performance exhaust which sounds really nice and also makes it more responsive.  I plan to do more to the car in the future,   I love this car because it is fun to drive and it is also a pretty fast car, not to mention a good looking one as well.  Thank you for taking your time to read this feature, and I look forward to seeing you at the next meeting.
